North East Common Plants Survey

Take part in the BSBI (Botanical Society for the British Isles) Regional Survey of common plants and play your part in helping the BSBI to gain a greater insight into the distribution and adundance of common plants.

In general, we have quite a good understanding of the distributions of rare native plants. However, in recent years it has become obvious that the distribution and adundance of common plants is changing. The exact reasons for this is not clear but the usual suspects are climate change, land management and land use change.

You can help to provide information by picking a 1km square from the map on the BSBI North East website and record all the species that you can confidently identify. The BSBI Vice County Recorders can provide you with help should you need it. Your information can then be sent to the BSBI County Recorders and will be used in the BSBI's national survey and help to estimate and predict the adundance of common plants in the region.
